Mission Statement
Kickapoo Nation School is dedicated to providing a holistic education that empowers students in kindergarten through 12th grade to achieve academic excellence while developing a strong sense of cultural identity, purpose, and responsibility.
Our mission is to cultivate lifelong learners who take pride in their individual and Tribal identities and are prepared to become thoughtful stewards of their communities and the environment. Through an educational experience rooted in culture, language, academic excellence, and environmental stewardship, we honor the traditions of the Kickapoo Nation while preparing students to meet the opportunities and challenges of the future.
We strive to inspire every student to become a confident, responsible leader who contributes to the strength of their community, respects and protects the natural world, and carries the values and traditions of the Kickapoo Nation forward for generations to come.
Core Values
Cultural Identity
At Kickapoo Nation School, we honor and integrate the traditions, languages, values, and practices of the Kickapoo Nation and sibling Nations throughout our educational experience. Through this commitment, we foster a strong sense of cultural identity, belonging, and pride in our students.
Our approach incorporates the Four Pillars and teachings of the Gathering of Native Americans (GONA): Belonging, Mastery, Interdependence, and Generosity. These principles help guide how we learn, grow, support one another, and strengthen our school community.
Belonging
Belonging teaches us the importance of feeling connected, valued, and respected within our community and culture. It reinforces the understanding that every student has a place, a voice, and a purpose within our school community.
Mastery
Mastery encourages us to understand how the experiences and lessons of our past shape who we are today while inspiring us to continue learning and growing. It challenges students to develop their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and support one another in reaching their full potential.
Interdependence
Interdependence recognizes the interconnectedness of people, all living beings, the land, water, and air. It teaches the importance of supporting and relying on one another while honoring our responsibilities to the world around us. Through collaboration, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, we strengthen our community and thrive together.
Generosity

Environmental Stewardship

Language
At Kickapoo Nation School, we believe the importance of teaching and preserving the Kickapoo language cannot be overstated. Our language is a fundamental part of cultural identity, connecting students to their ancestors, community, traditions, and identity as Indigenous people.
Teaching the Kickapoo language preserves more than words; it strengthens a profound connection to our history, culture, and worldview.
